Non-Immigrant ED Visa

Education Visas for foreigners to learn the Thai language or for Kids under 18 to go to an International School.

Education Visa: Foreigners learning the Thai Language at an official school

In Thailand, the Student Visa in Phuket offers an excellent opportunity for foreigners who wish to study and learn the Thai language. Individuals holding an Education Visa are required to engage in a study for approximately 4 hours per week, totaling at least 50 hours over the duration of the visa period.

The Student Visa can be obtained for either a 6-month or 1-year period. Applicants are required to visit the Phuket Immigration Office for the initial 90-day stamp and report every 90 days thereafter, without incurring any additional fees.

Education Visas for Kids under 18 to go to an International School or public Thai school.

In Thailand, all foreign children aged 3 to 18 must have a student or education visa to attend school. Many attend international schools, while others enroll in public Thai schools. Phuket is home to outstanding educational institutions for the children of expatriates who decide to move to Thailand, offering them the opportunity to experience the wonderful expat lifestyle in Phuket.

Just like their parents, students will need to do the 90-day reporting required of any long-stay visa in order to record your residential address, therefore they must report to the immigration office every 90 days.

Getting an education visa for your kid can be sorted out once you get to Thailand. You can enter the country with a 30-day visa that doesn’t require prior application or a 60-day tourist visa. This setup is handy because it gives you a chance to check out different schools and pick the best one for your family, considering both its quality and where it’s located.

Detailed information on both Non-Immigrant ED Visas

This type of visa is issued to travelers seeking to enter Thailand for educational purposes, including studying, attending seminars, participating in training sessions, or completing internships at a company as a compulsory component of a curriculum in Thailand.

Initial visa is for 90 days but can be extended. Those qualified may obtain an additional one-year stay permit, counting from the date of entry to Thailand. The extension of stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer at the Phuket Immigration Office.

To study in a short course, or to learn the Thai language, applicants must obtain an approval letter from the school that is registered by the Ministry of Education. Additionally, a letter confirming enrollment details, signed by an authorized person from the school along with a copy of the ID card or passport of the signer, is required. All needs to be accompanied by the school’s registration certificate or license, issued by the competent authority or the Private Education Commission.

Requirements:
  • Valid passport of not less than 6 months (for 90-day visa) or 18 months (for 1-year visa)
  • 2 passport-sized (4 x 6 cm) recent photo of the applicant
  • Recommendation letter
  • Approval letter from the school that is registered by the Ministry of Education.
  • Additional documents as deemed necessary
